Isleta tribal members may declare their candidacy for public office for the 2017-2018 term.
Qualified tribal members may run for Tribal Governor or a seat on the Tribal Council.
If you wish to run for office, you must submit your declaration to the Tribal Council no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.
The Council will eliminate persons that they believe are not qualified to run for office. Thereafter, the Council will mail out a list of persons who are running for office on October 21 and October 22.
To vote in the tribal election, tribal members must register to vote. Registration will be held on October 29th and October 30th at the Dining Room of the Isleta Elderly Center from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
From the list of persons approved by the Council, tribal members may nominate a candidate for Governor and the Tribal Council.
The top 2 persons receiving the most nominations for Governor will remain on the ballot.
The top 14 persons receiving the most nominations for the Tribal Council will remain on the ballot.
Election day will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. – One Day Only.
If you fail to register, you will not be allowed to vote on election day.
Also, if you fail to register, you will not be allowed to vote in any special elections during the 2018-2019 term. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to register to vote.
