Isleta Business Corporation

The terms for James Fitting and Harold Culbertson serving on the Board of Directors for the Isleta Business Corporation (IBC) expire this month (December). The Council received only two applicants to fill their vacancies. The applicants are ReGina Joyce Zuni and Kevin Garcia. Zuni is a tribal member and Garcia is a non-Indian.

Secretary Barbara Sanchez explained that a prior Council barred Zuni from being on the property. Verna Teller stated that she wanted to see something in writing concerning Zuni’s banishment. Ulysses Abeita agreed and stated that the Council needed to give her a chance and treat her fairly. Sanchez stated that she would provide the Council with the documents on Zuni.

According to Council Member Fernando Abeita, Board Members for the IBC receive $1,500.00 monthly and the Board is only required to meet once per month in order to receive such compensation. (The Board Members may meet more often. But, the IBC’s charter only requires them to meet once per month). Abeita told the Council that they needed to appoint tribal members to the Board.

Verna Teller made a motion to:

  • Interview Kevin Garcia;
  • Review the documents on ReGina Zuni concerning a prior Council’s decision to bar her from being on the property;
