Isleta Tribal Council Disappointed with Low Turnout

On July 12, 2014, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) conducted a meeting concerning the Isleta Tribal Council’s proposed amendments to the Isleta Tribal Constitution.

According to the Council’s discussion on July 15, 2014, approximately 40 tribal members attended the meeting on July 12th.

Council members were very disappointed that tribal members did not attend the meeting. In general, the Council felt that the people simply do not care about the proposed amendments.  The Council does not believe they can force people to attend meetings.

Council members also commented that people do not even attend the Governor’s quarterly meetings because people do not care.
